Online Core Training 2026
Led by BC & Alberta Trainers

The training will cover all the content as an in-person training: development and practice of both roles (Doorperson & Storyteller); and all story genres - Sacred, Parable, Liturgical Action with the fourth genre, silence, woven throughout. There are also plenaries on creating sacred space, supporting the community of children, children’s spirituality, the Godly Play environment and getting started. Reading, reflecting and practicing stories between sessions is part of the work.

We use an action/reflection model with some leader presentations and a lot of interaction. All learning will take place in a prayerful and playful atmosphere with creative and experienced Godly Play trainers.

Zoom:
All training will be held on the Zoom platform. To enjoy the day, with limited technological glitches, participants should have downloaded Zoom to their computer, laptop or tablet, be familiar with it and have stable Internet.

Segments within any day will be no more than 90 minutes with breaks. The training is very full and fun - while online, commit to giving it your full attention.
Storytelling and Small Groups:
Each participant will tell a story, by heart, to be shared with the group. All participants will be connected with a small group as well as a trainer to assist with exploring the story, the story materials, and to deepen everyone's understanding of the story genre.
There will be three one hour small group sessions which will take place in between Saturday sessions. Times to be negotiated.
Small groups and the corresponding set of stories will be pre-assigned. Participants will choose a story from one of the three genres and be required to do some preparation and reading ahead of time.
Resources:
Each participant will receive all the stories scripts used in the training, access to a printable training binder, materials for responding to the story, and if needed the materials required to tell the story.
We will mail materials to you and the cost of mailing back the story materials is covered in the cost of training. Their prompt return is appreciated.

Originally developed with children, Godly Play is both spiritual practice and process applicable to all ages and many settings.
